To most people's astonishment Final Fantasy XIII was announced on May 8th 2006 at E3. Square Enix fans really weren't expecting this next generation title to be announced with other big projects such as Crisis Core on the horizon for Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIII had been kept completely secret but had actually been in development since the Final Fantasy VII Tech Demo was announced.
