Land Spirits
In Gaia, there are several of small creatures that can be found in specific locations, that ask for certain gems. These creatures, or, Spirits of Gaia, are friendly, come with their own special battle music, and give away tons of AP, if you fulfill their wishes. Below, are the names, and locations you can find these Spirits.

  • Mu - Outside Dali - 1 Ore - 10 AP
  • Ghost - Outside Treno - 1 Ore - 10 AP
  • Lady Bug - In the forest outside the Black Mage Village - 2 Ore - 20 AP
  • Yeti - In the forest outside Madain Sari - 2 Ore - 20 AP
  • Nymph - In the small (and only) forest right outside the Iifa Tree - 3 Ore - 30 AP
  • Jabberwock - In the forest east of Oeilvert - 1 Emerald - 40 AP
  • Feather Circle - Outside Esto Gaza, on the chocobo tracks - 1 Moonstone - 30 AP
  • Garuda - Garuda can be found on the outside of Gizamaluke Grotto, after climbing the rope near the save point located within it - 1 Lapis Lazuli - 40 AP
  • Yan - On Vile Island (the island in the center of the World Map) - 1 Diamond - 40 AP

*Beware when looking for Jabberwock, as Grand Dragons, and Marlboro's dwell in the same area.

**Yan only appears, and stays, when you have found all of the other Spirits, and given them what they wanted. Otherwise, he'll just continue to run away from the battle.

*** On Vile Island, and when you are looking for Yan, beware. This island is inhabited by small sheep, who can easily kill you. They can cast Comet, on top of doing 3,000+ damage from single attacks. If you're a lower level, simply use Zidane's Flee skill to escape the battle if it has the normal battle music.

****Beware of the Gimme Cat on Sacrobless Island. He is not a Spirit, and, giving him a Diamond, will give you nothing in return. Attacking him, causes him to counter with Meteor, and he gives you a measly 1 EXP, and 3 AP at the end of the battle.

After giving Yan what he wants, he'll mention that you can now physically attack the big, round guy. He is referring to Ozma, the hardest boss in the game, who can be found on the Chocobo Air Garden. Completing this quest, also lowers how difficult Ozma is to defeat.
