Review
The long awaited sequal to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories finally hit European shores, and with this I tore open the game packaging jammed it into my PS2 and got ready for some KH2 goodness.
Unlike KH and Chain of Memories you don't begin the game as Sora, instead you play as a new character called
Roxas. Eventually you get Sora back as a character, but not after completing the Twilight Town scenario as Roxas, upon first playing the game a few things were notable. The battle system has improved by quite a lot, the new Triangle button Reaction Commands come in really useful and improve Kingdom Hearts II's battle system a lot, when fighting Dusk's you'll notice a command called Reversal. This really improves the gameplay whilst fighting Dusk's because you can just zip around the back and launch a parry attack.
The gameplay's improved a lot, and so has the storyline. The storyline has got much darker and mysterious compared to that of Kingdom Hearts II storyline. In breif the storyline takes the character Sora and tells you the rest of his journey, Organization XIII, a powerful group of Nobodies are threatening many worlds and Sora, Donald and Goofy take it upon themselves to fight these mysterious figures as they venture forward to find King Mickey, Riku and Kairi. The storyline is a lot better and the game is much more serious than Kingdom Hearts II, a few new worlds have been added such as the Pride Lands and Port Royal, two of the great new world in Kingdom Hearts II.
As for graphics and music the opening FMV for Kingdom Hearts II is absolutely breath taking, the graphics are some of the best we've seen so far on the PlayStation 2, the opening FMV basically tells the story of Chain of Memories and Roxas' awakening. Accompaning the opening FMV is the KHII main theme, Sanctuary by Utada Hikaru. This song is just as catchy as Simple and Clean was and makes a great Kingdom Hearts II main theme. The rest of the game other than the ending is played in real time graphics, which works just as well considering the graphics are pretty awesome.
Overall I'd say this game is deffinately worth getting and playing through!
9.5/10
