Xenosaga Episode II
Xenosaga II is the second installment in the promising Xenosaga series, the game takes on the role of several characters - each having their own background stories which are told throughout the second game. Many people have complained that the game is too confusing because of this, but if you stick with it and wait until the end the story comes together and makes much more sense.
Another complaint about Xenosaga Episode II is the difficulty, many claim that it's way too hard and indeed it's a difficult game but once you've got your head around the battle system and how to equip Skills this game really isn't as difficult as people make out.
So onto the actual review, I liked Xenosaga II a lot and it's deffinately up their with my favourites. To me this game reminds me of Grandia II, the field gameplay is very similar however the battles are much different. For the battle system Namco have stuck to what they do best - fighting games. The battle system combines turn-based RPG elements with the button mashing combinations of fighting games. And unlike most RPG's instead of equipping weapons and armour, you get all your ability boosters by equipping Skills. The Skills feature in this game allows as much customization of your characters as you like, very similar to the way the Sphere Grid in Final Fantasy X.
Xenosaga II takes place in a war-torn future, a future where mankind has had to abandon the Earth. Now they struggle to survive as they remain locked in an epic battle against the merciless alien Gnosis.
With the fate of humanity at stake the hunt continues for the Zohar, a legendary artefact rumoured to be capable of eradicating the Gnosis. Shion, KOS-MOS and their companies continue their struggle to put an end to the Gnosis and find out exactly what went on fourteen years ago...
So this game has a pretty solid storyline, and to top that off it doesn't have half bad graphics either. They aren't the best but they are suffice, all in all I'd think this game is deffinately one of the best PS2 titles on the market and if you haven't already, grab yourself a copy! And don't worry if your European because Europe has a special edition version of Xenosaga Episode II which comes with a DVD telling the story in detail of the events of Xenosaga Episode I, the game we unfortunately missed out on. However if your going to watch the DVD make sure you have a lot of free time on your hands because it is very, very long!
9/10
